Scratch Art Book – Tattoo Artists

by Tattoosue on Aug.07, 2009, under Art, Tattoos-Body Art

Scratch Board ArtOn a recent trip to Arizona, my hubby and I visited a tattoo shop in Jerome and this book was laying on the table for customers to flip through.  It encompasses one of my favorite art mediums scratch board.  Scratchboard art is when an artist takes a completely black surface – it is a panel covered in most times, india ink.  The artist then uses various scratching tools to uncover the white beneath to produce the desired picture and affect they are striving for. This hardcover book was put together by Guy Aitchison amongst others.  The artwork is all done by tattoo artists.

The book consists of the work of over 200 tattoo artists using various tools including tattoo needles to do the “scratching”.  I’m not sure why but Amazon sells it new for $40.00 and sellers on Amazon are selling used versions for over $100.00.???

[...] by Susan on Mar.19, 2008, under Tattoos-Body Art Just about any tattoo artist will recognize his name – but some ink lovers that don’t keep up with the tattoo magazines may not realize what a big name Guy Aitchison is.  Guy has distinguished his art with his own unique style of tattooing and has written a book, Reinventing the Tattoo,  that specifically lays out the technique he uses for tattooing.  His technique is different from what the majority artists employ.  He uses a multiple pass technique that results in a bolder and straighter line.  I owned his book which was quite helpful in tatoo techniques – his work tends to focus on “natural geometry and organic structure “. He has also published helpful tattoo manuals, The Graphic Language for Tattooists and Special Effects for Tattooists which have been highly successful and sold thousands. His seminars are attended by hundreds every year. One of his more recent projects is a book he put out that contains the artwork of talented tattoo artist in the black and white medium scratchboard.
