I’m not a fan of reality television but a new series called Best Ink, may have potential. It sounds like they’ve finally come up with a tattoo show that focuses on the art rather than the drama going on in the shop or in the lives of the artists.

It’ll be premiering on Oxygen and begin on January 30th of 2012.  It takes talented tattoo artists from across the country and has them compete for the title “Best Ink” – the best tattoo artist of that group.  The grand prize is $100,000 and a cover story in Tattoo magazine.  Not too shabby. The artwork is judged by a panel consisting of Joe Capobianco and other people in the industry.  A guest judge will be rotated on the panel.

Each episode consists of two challenges for the artists. The first will challenge their creative as well as their artistic skills. They’ll be given challenges like coming up with a tattoo design to commemorate a life or based on a personal inspirational story.  The second is to determine the most talented artist with the most artistic ability.

Artists will be eliminated as the competition progresses.  As times goes on, the challenges get more difficult and eventually only one artist will remain at the end.  It’ll be interesting to see if they can keep the show focused on the talent and steer clear of the pumped up drama you see on most of these shows.  I think there are more than enough fans of tattoo art that would be interested in a show focusing on the artist’s skills only.

The tricky thing about quote tattoos is that nine times out of ten they can’t be too long. Unless you have a huge expanse of skin that you plan on dedicating to the tat, like a forearm or your entire back, you’re going to need to pick a quote that’s short enough to fit in a small area.

Well,i guess im really trying to take whatever steps i need to to become a better Tattoo Artist and to stay humble at the same time!I would really like to participate in something that would help define me as a passionate artist that people can come get nice art from.Im not the tipical tattoo artist that others are,i havent been in the industry very long but my love for tattooing is def in my blood.I have been messing around with it for 15yrs but just 2 yrs ago started taking it very serious. My brother “Ian Butler”is the only one that is good enough around where i live that i can learn anything from!Ive seen enough bad artists around here to make anyone sick to there stomachs.I think if i could be on your show,i could def learn alot from all the other artists on the show.Yes,i would like to win but to be realistic, they will probably be way better than me.Also,i would like to be a part of changing the stereotype and out look on the impression we have as artists, not junkies or drunks!!Im a home body, family loving christian, skateboarder that has gone through a world of shit that now just wants to better mine and my families situation through tattooing.Im not a bible thumper by no means,i just believe god gave me a few talents to hopefully reach out to others that might have gone through what i have, and theres not enough room on this page for me to explain everything and i might have said to much as it is but,im fine with that! My # is (334)797-0933 and i have a Face Book under Wes Taylor———–Any Advice????????????????????
