Realism in a Tattoo Painting
by Tattoosue on Jul.30, 2009, under Art, Tattoos-Body Art
California artist, Janice Urnstein Weissman, has a series of paintings featuring nude figures covered in tattoos. At first I thought her paintings were artistic photography or perhaps, a great exercise of Photoshop manipulartion that is catching on lately. But, in fact, they are beautiful works of oil paintings. She has created beautiful pieces of art with the subject matter of intricate tattoo designs adorning the skin of the subjects.
They are barely nudes there is so much ink work on their bodies. As with most unique artists, she has a passion behind her art – her intent is to create to raise awareness about feminism’s impact on culture. Her work is currently on the website of the Brooklyn Museum – check out other pieces with the same subject matter.
