Tattoos and the Olympics

Tattoos are truly becoming accepted in all walks of society.  My hubby and I are chilling, watching the Vancouver Olympic women’s bobsled competition.  The announcers like to fill you in on cute and interesting personal stories about whoever is competing at the time.   Canadian bobsled driver, Kaillie Humphries,  was only twelve years old when she posed a challenge to her family.  If she ever made it on an Olympic team, her family had to get matching tattoos.   Even at that young age Kaillie was jonesing for some skin art.  (continue reading…)

Tattoo Artist Chris Garcia

Don’t you hate it when someone is not only lucky to have one talent but these lucky ones have 2 or more talents that the rest of us regular folk drool and envy over. Chris Garcia is one of those people. Not only has the man proven himself as a talented tattoo artist, his original career was spent working on the space program for NASA. His life began in the Philippines were his pursuit of an apprenticeship ended in failure – but as fate would have it – his family eventually landed in Virginia. Chris’s tattooing career began in earnest. You can see from these two examples of his work, that Chris has a knack for realism and portrait work – probably the most difficult of styles. The ironic and sad thing is Garcia has a heart condition that prevents him from being tattooed. (continue reading…)

Talented Artist Taylor Cort

Even though Taylor Cort has been a tattoo artist for less than 5 years you could never tell that from the high quality work he punches out  His work is detailed and his shop is known for it’s custom work with almost no flash adorning the walls.   Now that he has opened up his shop, Mutiny Tattoo (located in Asheville North Carolina), he is now focusing his artwork on publishing books of his drawings.  The man lives and breathes art.  His first book is published and available on his Myspace page and he says he’s already working on the next 2 art books. Eyelid Tattoo

Recently eye tattoos have made the news – people getting pigment injected into the white part of the eyeball. This is way less intense but still over the top. It’s a very hard area to tattoo. The stretch of the skin is part of the whole tattoo process. The eye lid skin is so thin and almost impossible to get a good stretch of skin. The artist does a good job considering the challenge of the area.

He’s currently in the US; specifically he’ll be working at Off the Map Tattoo shop in East Hampton MA until January 15th. I was cruising the work of different artists on tattoo artists.org web site and found this guy.
