tattoo

One woman from New Zealand has been an inspiration for other individuals now offering auctions for picking out – what will be inked on their rears. Tina Beznec, the 23-year old woman, came up with a unique method to raise money.  Utilizing a New Zealand auction site, she’s taking bids to auction off a space of 9cm by 9cm on her butt for the tattoo of the winner’s choosing!

Her ad suggests –“advertise your business”, propose to your loved one (I doubt this would be a great idea), “destroy her love life” ( chuckle), get creative! The winner of the auction will receive a framed photograph of the final piece of art. If they’re lucky enough to live in the area, she said it’s OK to observe her getting the tattoo.  The auction ends in February and as of today – the highest bid is $12,200!!

Now this idea is catching on and men and women are auctioning off space in the same area.  In some cases, these people are strapped for cash and are planning to keep the money, while others are using it as a tool to raise money for a charity they believe in.

For example – Hannah Wesley, a nursing student, is offering the same options as Tina but she’s handing over half of the cash raised to her favorite animal welfare organization, the SPCA.

It’s an easy way to raise money for a good cause and shows that tattooing can be used for good causes.

An unlucky twenty-one year old man from Iran had some words, along with his girlfriend’s initial (wonder how laser removal will feel once that relationship shits the bed – ouch!), inked on his private parts.

For eight days nothing unusual happened. Then he began to notice that his “morning erection” was lasting much longer than usual. Things steadily progressed until eventually he has acquired a constant half-rigid penis.

Doctors from made a diagnosis of non-ischemic priapism. It’s a medical condition where blood flowing out of the penis is not sufficient enough to shrink the erection.

Doctors tried to correct the condition with a simple surgical procedure that placed a shunt inside of his penis to drain the excess blood. Unfortunately the procedure didn’t work.

Doctors are not offering any answers except try more surgeries but they were pessimistic about any type of permanent solution!

The guy decided to leave well enough alone and says he has no regrets. No regrets??   Really???

Jesus Religious Tattoo

Jesus Tattoo by Douglas Billian

It’s nice to see that people are able to think outside the box and come up with a practical and logical plan.  I’m referring to a Michigan pastor who is trying to reach out to young people who don’t feel completely comfortable visiting church or attending mass.

Rev. Steve Bentley started his church with the belief that mainstream religion has become ineffective. This is a theory that I read about years ago.  Churches are closing, and attendance is down.  Young people are not attending church to the same degree that their parents did.

So, Rev. Bentley opened up Serenity Tattoo – right inside the church.  The church is located in a shopping center and two artists work there by appointment.

Bentley said he understands some people are not crazy about the idea of Serenity Tattoo inside the church, but the pastor considers tattooing a “morally neutral” practice.

I am not a fan of religion but I still think this guy has a great idea.  One of the artists is a recovering alcoholic and finds that working in the church helps him stay on the right track.

The seniors in the church may not be happy about the tattoo infusion in their church, but I would bet it was a hit with anyone under 30 years old.  Why not find new ways to attract young people?

Tattoo Saves a Life

by on Jan.08, 2012, under News, Tattoos-Body Art

I figured this story was bound to surface once it was brought to light that people were getting medical tattoos to replace bracelets and other methods of stating a medical condition.

It makes sense that something as permanent as ink is safer than wearing a bracelet or necklace.  There’s always the chance that you’ll forget to wear it.  Maybe you haven’t had an attack or medical episode in years – so you get lax and just don’t wear it all the time……Then there’s the possibility that you’re in an accident and the jewelry is ripped off.

So, this woman, Michelle Bryant, had a severe asthma attack while shopping.  She was hit suddenly with a severe attack and couldn’t speak. But! by pointing to her wrist tattoo, she alerted the staff to what was going on.  By the time the ambulance got there she had almost stopped breathing entirely!  She says “Without my tattoo, I do not think I would be alive today. I could not tell anyone what was happening, but the tattoo showed the staff what the problem was, I didn’t have to say a word.”.

It was such a serious attack that she spent 4 days in ICU.

By letting them know what the problem was immediately, the store employees took action immediately and the paramedics knew exactly what was going on.

Michelle has the idea after she lost her medical alert bracelet.

It’s one of the rare incident when a tattoo actually serves a purpose – and what an important one!

Drake Tattooed on ForeheadKevin Campbell, the now infamous tattoo artist who inked this woman’s forehead, said the woman came into the shop completely ready to get “Drake” tattooed on her forehead.  He got the impression she actually thought it out.  She felt strongly about where and what and even brought in a sample of the font she wanted. Drake is a rapper.

Campbell noticed that the woman’s excitement quickly went south once she saw the tattoo.  Second thoughts perhaps?  Guess she’s schedule to come in for a second sitting and get the lettering filled in. Because that’s just what she needs – is to make it more prominent.

Wonder if she’ll show. I think she’s more likely to keep an appointment at the laser tattoo removal clinic.

Snake Yates (he legally changed his in the ‘80s) is well known amongst tattoo artists.  He was born and raised in Colorado Springs and was one of the first artists in the state.  He still owns Snake’s Tattoo shop in Colorado Springs. He’s now 62 years old and has been tattooing for over 40 years. And now Yates is becoming well known for his talent for restoring old dental chairs to be used in tattoo shops!

Dental chairs are the perfect choice for tattoo work because of their various adjustment choices and their Snake Yates Tattoo Artistmaneuverability.  Yates said using one of these was a real back saver and although he tried to properly care for his chairs, they eventually wore out. The upholstery would get ruined because of the chemicals needed to clean it.

After spending big money getting his chairs repaired again and again, Yates bought an upholstery machine and so began a second career. After years of repairing his own chairs, he now collects and repairs them. He buys chairs from local dentists, old dental offices in Mexico, or scavenges them from dental suppliers. Other artists have gotten wind of his talent and will hire him to repair their tattoo chairs.Dental Chairs and Snake Yates

Yates has now expanded his skills to include wheelchair repairs.  Nice to see someone is restoring a useful piece when we’re so used to chucking anything and everything that wears out or breaks.
