It’s Tatman!

Well, I’m not into watching sports on TV but my husband loves it – so last night a baseball game was on and I glanced up from my reading to see fans holding up signs that were plastered with love for “Tatman” – almost sounds like a Superhero. This quickly got my attention.

He was one of the most popular players in last night’s game – he hit a grand slam against the Milwaukee Brewers – and that’s why people were holding up these signs for Ryan Roberts of the Arizona Diamondbacks. His nickname stems from his many tattoos. The man is covered with tattoos from his neck to his toes.

I think high profile, successful sports figures like this are the type of public figures that will help change the negative attitude some people have about tattoo work. The 31 year old Roberts says he gets tattoos to show what inspires him. A lot of his fans are intrigued with his body art and the better he performs in the playoffs, the more inquiries he’ll receive — about his body art and about his performance on the field.

Banning Ink on the Beach

Just when you think that tattoos are gaining acceptance, a story depicting the opposite shows up in the news. Tattoos profiling and stereotyping is rearing it’s ugly head in Japan.

After a recent musical event in Kobe, a city located in Japan, the local government is considering banning anyone with tattoos from enjoying their beach. This brainstorm is being debated after a few college students were arrested for marijuana possession after a musical concert was held. It’s not defined in their article whether these particular students had tattoos but this local body of government is intent on cutting back on the number of young people enjoying the beach. Some local citizens are avoiding the beach because of all the young people hanging out. (Isn’t the beach made for young people to enjoy?)…..

The anticipated ban may not sit well with some who feel it violates their freedom of expression but considering that Japan already has a ban on tattoos in commercial facilities such as saunas, my guess is you won’t see anyone with ink sitting on this beach next summer….Hard to believe in civilized country that your rights are so restricted. Makes you appreciate your freedoms.

First let me say – I’ve never golfed. Had the opportunity on a Disney vacation but there was a dress requirement – polo shirt – just don’t own one of those and I refused to buy “special clothes” to meet the dress requirements. Well, if dressing in routine golfing gear has turned you off in the past, there is now an answer. This online store called Tattoo Golf deals exclusively in cool tattoo golf gear. They have tattoo-inspired designs on everything from shirts to cool accessories for you to wear while you’re whacking your balls. Their tattoo shirt collection includes options for youth sizes and the accessories include items like cool looking shades, cool hoodies, hats, golf gloves, towels, driver covers and putter covers. Hidden Talents

Washington law enforcement were amazed and in awe of the contraband snuck in by Gavin Stanger, 24, of East Wenatchee Washington. He was brought in for booking for a minor misdemeanor charge. He had previously arranged to serve 3 days for the charge. During the pat down given to Stanger, no contraband was detected. Stranger was later strip searched and still nothing was found.
Shortly after the strip search, one of the jail guards found a plastic bag and some duct tape floating in the Stanger’s toilet. Once the guards began questioning him, he admitted to smuggling in contraband. All sorts of stuff. Amazing amounts of sharp things stuck in the rectum. The list – a lighter, rolling papers, roughly an ounce of tobacco, eight tattoo needles and a bottle of tattoo ink, 1 inch long pipe and a small baggie of pot. Too bad all that talent is wasted on someone so stupid. He was serving 3 days for disorderly conduct. Now he’s facing another misdemeanor charge for the contraband. Three days. He couldn’t live without his weed and did he really want to get a jail tattoo that bad?

Gang Tattoos and Meaning

In doing research for my Tattoo Information Site – on Gang Related Tattoos - I found a site that has a database of over 700 Chicago tattoo pictures with current plans to expand to gangs all over the country. For some reason, when our world is completely remote from the world of bikers, gangs and prisons, we still have a fascination and curiosity regarding the topic. We get a glimpse through tv shows and movies but reading about this once mysterious world is now easy with the internet. The reason may be that we know that their tattoos symbolizes a gang members’ commitment and is not taken lightly. This site is well designed and informative – Gang Ink

This is an entertaining piece of Photoshop work and if you click on the title of this post you can vote for the creator, Sassydeb, who has put it out for comments on Freaking News. I don’t know what is funnier, Paris covered with tattoos or the extra meat on her thighs. I like this one better than the one of Hillary Clinton with tattoos – but that one is not bad either. And it seems more “out there”.

Are you just getting out of High School and don’t know what to do with your life? No money and prospects of college? Looking for a career change? There is no doubt that the tattoo removal business will be booming. The fact that there is now a college in Dallas teaching laser tattoo removal attests to this. It’s more expensive, painful and time consuming to get a bly already. The laser itself is expensive but that would probably be your initial investment and after that – how much overhead would there be? Next to nothing. Money to be had in this career.

Tattoo Removal

As you can guess, this area will probably be advancing as the years go on considering the popularity of tattoos. There are the creams and the expensive, painful, laser treatments that I know people have used. They are happy with the end result, but it’s more expensive than getting a tattoo and they say it has a similar feeling to having a rubber band snapped continuously on your skin – sounds damn painful to me. This is the newest technique that I have heard positive feedback about. It’s fairly new – Eliminink is implanted into the skin using the same type of tattoo machine that is used to create the tattoo, so many patients feel that the process is more comfortable than the six-nine stage laser removal process.
Based on what I’ve heard, this is going to be big in the next couple of years. Training is minimal and within the financial means of most individuals looking for a career in this field. I’m sure this is just the beginning of options that’ll be available down the road for people having regrets on their choices or wishing to “eliminate” a bad quality or poorly placed tattoo.

White Ink

Lighter inks – especially white ink – is usually hard to “get in” the skin and use for highlighting. You have to make sure it’s in solid, possibly making more than 1 pass. White ink is subtle – in almost all cases but the color of the skin can make a difference – with surprisingly-artists are saying that pale skinned customers actually display these tattoos better. Celebrities are starting to get these so you know that regular people will be clamoring for them soon.
