I’m going to give a shout out to an ex business associate and all around nice person who runs one of the best online tattoo clothing stores to be found on the internet. Too Fast Clothing is owned and operated by Maureen a former resident of Albuquerque. She has since moved her family and company to the Jersey Shore. The site and the product offerings keep getting better and better. So, even though I haven’t talked to her in awhile, I’m guessing things are going well. She sells baby clothes (like the onesie pictured here), items for the house but mostly tattoo clothes for adults. She’s been in the business for many years and is a good person to do business with. Day of the Dead

This tattoo is a prime example of the colorful skull work typical of the Mexican holiday – Day of the Dead -also known as All Souls Day. It is a time to celebrate or a time to remember friends and relatives that have passed on. It is at this time that dead relatives are allowed to come back to their mortal relations for a visit. Graveyards are decorated and food is prepared to get ready for the visitation. It is celebrated in early November – November 1, is All Saints Day, and November 2, All Souls Day. To some, the artwork and celebration may seem a bit on the morbid side but if you really read about the culture and tradition behind the holiday you’ll soon get caught up in the positive angle. It’s nice to see a celebration of the dead rather than a fear that many of us have of leaving this world. During this time cemeteries are visited and celebrations occur. Tequila is consumed and music and celebration graveside is common. Americans seem to have such an extreme fear of death and dying, the concept of celebrating the dead is a difficult concept for us to grasp but why not? This seems to be a beautiful way to help celebrate the people that are gone. We could learn a lot from such tradition.

Skull a Day

John Millhouse

John Millhouse was a famous ink collector in the world of tattoos featured in conventions and magazines over the years. He had a body suit that evolved with dark imagery being the theme. One of John’s key goals was near perfect symmetry. It strted with a small skull tattoo on the back of his neck and the theme grew from there.

At last count, he had 276 Skulls on his body. John had one artist do his entire body suit – Rick Harnowski of Tattoos by Rick. Sadly, this tattoo celebrity passed away at the young age of 52 in 2008.

The body suit took 5 1/2 years to complete and totaled 413 hours of work. Photos of John’s unique ink work have been printed in over 50 national magazines. In 2004 one of his photos won the Best of Photojournalism award for “Sturgis Tattooed Biker”. People with a body suit like John’s is hard to find. The paitence and planning involved take a unique personality.

Skull Feet

This piece was done by a talented guy by the name of Eric Wigger who works at the Devil’s Rose Tattoo in New York. Usually you see fairly small, dainty tats in this area. I believe one of the reasons is – the freaking pain. I’ve got one a tattoo on the top of my foot and the skin is so thin, with just bones lying beneath. Not a lot of muscle in this area. I don’t know if this was done in one sitting but I give them credit. Had to hurt in a big way. Other foot related tattoos – Moms and Dads getting their baby’s footprint as a tattoo. Cute idea. Often these are framed with the child’s birth date.

The store has only been around since 2005 and is a collection of very cool clothing and artwork. The design are from a large number of California Tattoo Artists. The art is bold and one of a kind. Miniature Tat

I thought this was a great choice for a miniature ear tattoo. Using the shape of the ear to enhance the shape of the skull. Very detailed. I also like the shading that was added to accent the concave of the ear itself. Previously, I had only seen feminine ear tats – flowers, tribal stuff. I think ear body art will become more popular in the future. It’s discreet and if you have long enough hair, can be covered if you prefer that in some social situations.

Cats and Skulls

I grabbed this photo from a blog of a digital artist who’s focus is animals and also digital scrapbooking. I was nicely surprised to find she also included one of my favorite subjects – skulls. I love this particular picture the butterfly, skull combination. She is very creative and I recently have tried to teach myself to us Elements to come up with some interesting digital creations and it’s not as easy as it looks. I hope I can come up with something this appealing someday.
