Capturing a person’s likeness so that their face is easy to recognize is difficult whether the medium is paper and pencil or skin and tattoo ink. I think baby pictures can be even more difficult since a baby’s face doesn’t have much definition. So, although it’s true the baby portraits are a challenge, if you aren’t up to it just admit it. Some tattoo artists are talented enough to pull of portrait tattooing but
it’s not usually a skill that all artists have. Artists usually know their strengths and they should also know their limitations. If you can’t carry it off – just don’t do it.
I found a blog that had a handy post that gathered 25 of these poorly done baby tattoos. You just gotta wonder what the recipient was thinking at the time.

Anyone that is involved with the tattoo world knows the number one faux paux is to get your lover’s name inked on you. Besides the statistics proving that a large percentage of relationships eventually bite the dust, there is the belief that just getting their name inked puts a jinx on the relationship. At that point there’s no doubt it will end sometime soon. Just don’t do it.
You’d think a seasoned tattoo artist like Kat Von D would know better. Even though she’s been through countless,
public relationships and has already lived through one failed marriage, she still went ahead and got Jesse James’s portrait inked on her side.
Jesse showed his true self as a dishonest cheater in multiple relationships, Kat decided she was going to befriend him. Then, before you know it, they’re engaged. It all happened real quickly. (Did anyone really think it was going to work out?)
The couple have now split up and she’s got, not just a name to get rid of, but a good size portrait to constantly remind her of him. I’m going to guess that laser treatment may be in her very near future.
The only names or faces you should ever get tattooed are your kids or other blood relatives. And there’s no guarantee there will come a day when you have regrets about them either. Just say no.

This is a cute story about imagination and a willingness to do just about anything for a laugh and some more change in your paycheck.
A young man by the name of Thut, was given an interesting challenge by his boss. If Thut got his bosses’ face tattooed on his rear, he’d get a $2.00 an hour increase in his pay. More like a joke that as who would actually carry through with such a challenge.

You may not recognize the name but you are likely to recognize Ryan Hadley’s t
attoo portraits which are often featured in tattoo magazines. In doing research on Ryan I discovered that he almost gave up on tattooing at one point. He started out self taught, working on friends that were willing to spare some skin. He said he was discouraged with his results and put down his tattoo machine for a couple of years with the intention of giving up. That would have been an awful waste of talent. Fortunately, he decided to give it another try, this time working in a real studio. He now is known for his portrait work, which is normally the toughest area to conquer. continue reading

he immortal Willie Nelson portrayed on a “pot” smokers calf. Willie is the coolest and what a great tribute to Willie. The tattoo is done by the great Bob Tyrrell. He’s one of my top 3 favorite tattoo artists. The realism is uncanny and his portraits are unbelievably realistic. Tyrrell does only black and gray work and only started working in the tattoo trade when he was 35 years old. You would never know it looking at the outstanding quality you see in his artwork.
