I live right off of Rt. 66 so I know there’s tons of merchandise and businesses promoting the classic retro style Rt. 66 with souvenirs, t-shirts and paraphernalia. Ron James is a Vietnam vet who has a hard on for Route 66. Ron has earned the nickname Tattoo Man and all his tattoos are a tribute to his favorite landmarks and businesses along this highway. He boasts having over 85 tattoos dedicated to Rt 66 businesses. He feels the people that run the businesses along the route as well as the people that travel this stretch are ”the friendliest in the world”. Not sure what other travels he’s experienced but I’ll vouch for friendly people in my stretch here in New Mexico. Ron chooses the subject of his ink when a landmark or sign stands out to him. He’s even become well known to businesses along the route. Ron will usually ask business owners for their permission before getting the tattoo and most of them are thrilled when Ron chooses their sign or building as his next piece of body art. Some feel that they’ve “made it” if Ron chooses their business. Ron lives in Bartlesville, Oklahoma – situated along Rt 66.

Washington law enforcement were amazed and in awe of the contraband snuck in by Gavin Stanger, 24, of East Wenatchee Washington. He was brought in for booking for a minor misdemeanor charge. He had previously arranged to serve 3 days for the charge. During the pat down given to Stanger, no contraband was detected. Stranger was later strip searched and still nothing was found.
Shortly after the strip search, one of the jail guards found a plastic bag and some duct tape floating in the Stanger’s toilet. Once the guards began questioning him, he admitted to smuggling in contraband. All sorts of stuff. Amazing amounts of sharp things stuck in the rectum. The list – a lighter, rolling papers, roughly an ounce of tobacco, eight tattoo needles and a bottle of tattoo ink, 1 inch long pipe and a small baggie of pot. Too bad all that talent is wasted on someone so stupid. He was serving 3 days for disorderly conduct. Now he’s facing another misdemeanor charge for the contraband. Three days. He couldn’t live without his weed and did he really want to get a jail tattoo that bad?

Tattooed Fish

Maybe you’ve heard of painted cats – but have you heard of tattooed fish? Singapore exports tattooed fish to interested stores although animal rights activists do not condone this strange practice. The fish are sedated (I wonder how that is done?) and then they are tattooed in the same manner as humans – needles are used to insert pigments into the skin. The tattoos last 3-4 months.

Black and white art produces very minute details. I have been a fan of the fantasy art of Dennis Joern for over 20 years and own some of his work. His subject matter usually consists of elf like creatures with very intricate details. I first noticed his work as an advertisement for Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pens – they are the best – and was so impressed I actually bought them – He now sells his wares on the web and has something for everyone’s budget from postcards to prints ready for framing. Circus and Tattoos

Do you remember the fascination you had with carnies – and circus people? Their world was alien and fascinating to myself as a kid. Part of that world, was the beginnings of the tattoo craze. “Most Tattooed Man (or Woman)”, sometimes tattoo work was available at the traveling shows. Tattoo Removal

As you can guess, this area will probably be advancing as the years go on considering the popularity of tattoos. There are the creams and the expensive, painful, laser treatments that I know people have used. They are happy with the end result, but it’s more expensive than getting a tattoo and they say it has a similar feeling to having a rubber band snapped continuously on your skin – sounds damn painful to me. This is the newest technique that I have heard positive feedback about. It’s fairly new – Eliminink is implanted into the skin using the same type of tattoo machine that is used to create the tattoo, so many patients feel that the process is more comfortable than the six-nine stage laser removal process.
Based on what I’ve heard, this is going to be big in the next couple of years. Training is minimal and within the financial means of most individuals looking for a career in this field. I’m sure this is just the beginning of options that’ll be available down the road for people having regrets on their choices or wishing to “eliminate” a bad quality or poorly placed tattoo.

White Ink

Lighter inks – especially white ink – is usually hard to “get in” the skin and use for highlighting. You have to make sure it’s in solid, possibly making more than 1 pass. White ink is subtle – in almost all cases but the color of the skin can make a difference – with surprisingly-artists are saying that pale skinned customers actually display these tattoos better. Celebrities are starting to get these so you know that regular people will be clamoring for them soon.
