You may not have known his name but you’ll know the face. Liev Schreiber has starred in many roles in television and movies. One of his most recent and more popular roles was as Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His background is very unusual. Once his parents divorced when he was 5 years old, him and his mom moved to New York City. She drove cab to support them but they lived in abandoned buildings. She never let him see color movies. Only the old black and white flicks. Anyway, he wasn’t into tattoos until recently when he had a vivid dream about a specific tattoo design. He dreamt he was in his senior years and his children were grown. He was driving and got a flat. While changing the flat, his sleeve rolls up and there is a tattoo of his childrens names on his arm. His kids were there and saw it and were thrilled. When he woke he thought it would be a great idea to show his love for them. He has experienced vivid dreams before that have been forceful enough to motivate him to act in his real life. He took up scuba diving to mimic the repeated dream he had of being able to fly. He felt that was fairly close to the wonderful sensation he experienced while having the dream.

I see a bright future for this artist. I have a couple imaging programs but find them so damn hard to learn. When I see someone accomplishing this level my mouth just hangs open. I can appreciate the work involved. Check out this video for a babysitting ad done by an art school student.

Vampire Bites

There’s a new trend currently popular with young teenagers primarily middle school kids which is freaking out their parents. The popularity of the “Twilight” books and movie along with the HBO series “True Blood” has been given the reasons for this new fad. Young teenagers are now actually biting their friends on the neck to make a statement about their friendship or love for that person. They bite hard enough to leave tissue damage and some heavy bruising. Then they are documenting the act with pictures on their Facebook profile. Experts say this is wrong on a few levels. We all know how germ filled our mouths are supposed to be. Human bites can be worse than animal bites and there’s a chance of infection. Experts also say biting can be a form of physical and emotional abuse. I don’t agree that this is the case here. The ones being bitten probably feel they are part of the popular group of kids at their school. Speaking from my own experience with raising my kids, my advice to parents is to just ignore it. If you make a big deal about it, your kids will just do it more. They just won’t be so open about letting the world knows. Put yourself in their shoes – if your parental units told you to cease and desist would you? Or would you just be better at hiding it from them? David Bollt Artist

I’ve been aware of this artist for some years and have admired his style and talent. I did a small post about him almost 2 years ago that was lacking “meat” and decided David needed more credit than I gave him in that post. Bollt is not only a respected tattoo artist, he has a large following of admirers of his fantasy work and is well known for his illustrative work for book covers, CD covers and magazine art work. When he was only in his early teens, he began his art career by freelancing. He designed cover work for local bands as well as science fiction magazines. After getting his Fine Arts degree and working in the field for awhile, he spent a year studying tattooing. He travels the tattoo convention circuit and you might be able to catch him with his traveling art gallery which hits about 20 cities a year. His site is going under a redesign which will hopefully better show examples of his work. What I’ve seen of his tattoo work I like very much but I think his strengths are in his illustrations. If you admire his work and style and you are looking for a fantasy piece for your next tattoo, a copy of one of his art pieces might be the perfect choice.

Evil Goth Dolls

I’m excited – found a brand new goth doll artist that has a unique and wonderful VERY dark style. And the reasons for getting into the craft touched my heart. After rescuing a puppy born with several birth defects, macabre artist D. L. Marian, began making dolls to enable her to work at home with her pup by her side. She creates one of a kind gothic horror dolls and mannequins. Some of her doll categories include ghost dolls, vampire dolls and strange babies. Some of them are borderline disturbing but I guess you can just equate that to flattery to the artist. She even has a payment plan option to make them easier to afford but her prices seem extremely reasonable to start with. This may be an offer I cannot refuse.

Tattoo Artist Oleg Turyanskiy

If you live in the US you have limited window of opportunity to get inked by this artist. He’s currently in the US; specifically he’ll be working at Off the Map Tattoo shop in East Hampton MA until January 15th. I was cruising the work of different artists on tattoo artists.org web site and found this guy. He lives and works in Russia but says one of his passions is travel so keep up with his schedule – he’s into doing the shows and conventions. After graduating high school, Oleg went to art school and then into the commercial art business. He soon found that expressing his artwork on people was a much more satisfying career and worked out as a great occupation for his desire to travel.If you go to his myspace page you can also see excellent Flash that he sells as well as the cover of a book he’s working on called “Fairy Tale Creatures Sketchbook” – his artwork is so creative – his creatures in his flash and all of his artwork will appeal to fans of fantasy art.

Hot Tattoo Witch

Hope everyone enjoyed their Halloween festivities. Happy the day after Halloween. Time to dive into the left over candy. SO, speaking of Halloween I did some searching around for some good Witch related tattoos. Less to be found than I had anticipated – but as often happens one type of search turns into a stumble onto a site that makes you even happier.This is a painting by an artist by the name of Scott Clayton a fantasy artist from Aurora, Illinois – and you can see all of his works by clicking here. The title of the piece is Hot Tattoo Witch – perfect, to the point, and the reason I stumbled on it.

Black and white art produces very minute details. I have been a fan of the fantasy art of Dennis Joern for over 20 years and own some of his work. His subject matter usually consists of elf like creatures with very intricate details. I first noticed his work as an advertisement for Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pens – they are the best – and was so impressed I actually bought them – He now sells his wares on the web and has something for everyone’s budget from postcards to prints ready for framing. Fantasy Artist – Brian Froud

Since I was a teen – ages ago- I have been a fan of this guy’s fantasy artwork. I currently have one of his prints on my office wall – some wood nymphs and small gnome type creature. He has also been an artistic factor in movies such as the Labrinth and Jim Hensons’ the Dark Crystal. His artwork has an earthy, nautral feel to it. Nature abounds.
