This is one of those stories about someone who beats the odds. Unfortunately for him, it was not in a good way. Like 63-year old, Joan Ginther, from Bishop, Texas, who recently won the lottery for the 4th time. Her most recent win was $10 million from a scratch-off ticket she bought for $50. No, Rick Oliver from Raleigh, North Carolina, has been unfortunate in his notoriety. Most recently he was mauled by a bear. In his own front yard! Oliver has trouble sleeping and was tinkering around his seventeen acre spread one night at 2 a.m. He heard a noise and went to turn around and slam! The bear gouged and cut him with his claws but Oliver will recover completely. He compared the bear attack to being hit by lightening. He was able to compare the two because he had been hit by lightening in 2006. He blames the lightening strike for his insomnia which makes it even more strange since he wouldn’t have been attacked unless he had been out there at that particular time. The odds of both of these incidents occurring to one individual – are just hard to wrap your head around. You may look at Rick and say – what an unlucky guy. But if you are a “the glass is half full” kinda person, you’d point out that Rick survived both times.
