Mick’s Birthday

One of my generation’s icons had a birthday a couple of days ago. Mick Jagger turned 67 years old on July 26^th. Although the lines are deeper, the skin is sagging more, he is still full of dynamic energy and talking about their farewell tour. Yup, the Rolling Stones will embark on large tour next year. Their last and final big tour. The Stones are facing their senior years and want this one last tour to celebrate almost 50 years of being together and to call it quits. It’ll be their last full scale tour. Ronnie Woods is 63, Keith Richards is 66 and Charlie Watts will turn 70 while the band is on tour. I find it depressing to see these guys at the end of their career. I saw them in concert multiple times for the Bridges to Babylon tour and I’ll never forget it. My kids were raised listening to the Stones and I took one of my daughters to see them during that time. I was even a member of their fan club! If you have an opportunity to see them on this last tour, do it. They are part of the history of rock and roll.

Dreamt Up Tattoos

You may not have known his name but you’ll know the face. Liev Schreiber has starred in many roles in television and movies. One of his most recent and more popular roles was as Sabertooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His background is very unusual. Once his parents divorced when he was 5 years old, him and his mom moved to New York City. She drove cab to support them but they lived in abandoned buildings. She never let him see color movies. Only the old black and white flicks. Anyway, he wasn’t into tattoos until recently when he had a vivid dream about a specific tattoo design. He dreamt he was in his senior years and his children were grown. He was driving and got a flat. While changing the flat, his sleeve rolls up and there is a tattoo of his childrens names on his arm. His kids were there and saw it and were thrilled. When he woke he thought it would be a great idea to show his love for them. He has experienced vivid dreams before that have been forceful enough to motivate him to act in his real life. He took up scuba diving to mimic the repeated dream he had of being able to fly. He felt that was fairly close to the wonderful sensation he experienced while having the dream.

I recently became a member of PETA. I felt I had to do more than yap about animal abuse and how much it upset me. They make some amazing strides in keeping businesses and people accountable for how animals are treated. But the task seems gigantic so any help individuals can offer helps the cause. Recently, PETA has had impressive campaigns to promote the ethical treatment of animals including “Ink No Mink”. Celebrities are stripping out of their clothes and being tastefully photographed with a couple of accessories and in all their tattoo glory. A great idea for a campaign. A win win. Everyone loves tattoos and celebrities. Naked celebrities with tattoos. Whoever thought up the campaign should get a promotion! Visit their ad page to see more. And if you have a heart, make a donation or, better yet, join PETA and support their work. If you can’t afford to do that, write a letter. Voice your objection to some of the cruelty we subject animals to.

Realistic Bowie

Adam Beane must have been born with this outstanding talent. He was meant to sculpt realistic characters. Besides taking some classes in his high school and college years, he had only attempted sculpting the human figure 4 times when he was offered the opportunity to work as a freelance artist with McFarlane Toys. According to Beane he was one of their top freelance sculptors in just a year’s time. His gallery of artwork includes realistic miniature sculptures of characters that can be found in movies and comic books. He recently rendered a likeness of our president that definitely catches our leader’s likeness. In addition to his talented pieces which can be found both on his site and this site called Asylum, the plastic compound he uses in his art was created by him. He said he was frustrated with the materials available to artists and he created CX5 after substantial experimentation. He’s offering a chance to sign up for a mailing list that will enable him to notify everyone in July – when his product is expected to be sold to the masses – I know I’m curious – and I signed up. You’ll also find out when his sculpting video and other products are released.

Artist and Entrepreneur -Ami James

Ami James is the well known shop owner and star of Miami Ink – and I’ve learned recently, he is also an entrepreneur that has spread his artistic talents to other endeavors. His business sense and ambition reminds me of the ideas we see in Mario Barth’s campaign to change the tattoo business. Ami is part owner of Love Hate Tattoo Studio – the tattoo shop featured on Miami Ink. His other business interests include a lounge by the same name – Love Hate Lounge, as well as a jewelry design business called Ami James Jewelry Company, and his own clothing line. In addition to all these projects – he also has his own blog –Ami James Official Blog. I’d also like to say that I was thrilled and SO excited when a talent like Ami James become a friend of this blog. Very exciting – and I’ve been boasting to my friends (any anyone else I was trying to impress) – thanks for joining Ami.

Bombshell McGee Meets Howard Stern

I was lucky enough to be listening to Howard Stern Wednesday morning when Jesse James’ most public mistress was interviewed by Howard. The interview wasn’t all fluff and sexual fun. She was questioned about the Nazi photos and white power tattoos. After listening, I was even more disgusted with Jesse’s actions than before. He fucked up his marriage for women like this? It was hard to believe the majority of drivel that was oozing from her mouth. For example, she said she would never intentionally bed down with a married man – unless the wife knew about it. Along with this statement, she said she had a profile on AshleyMadison.com which is site for people to meet for discreet affairs. The point of the site is to hide it from your spouse. She doesn’t strip anymore – but yet she promoted where she will be stripping. When asked if she had ever slept with a back man, she said no but she’s “not against it”. As expected, she denied being a racist. Her words “I have too many colored friends”. She made one statement that may ring true was regarding Jesse’s dick – which she liked to call “Vanilla Gorilla” – was of average size and not a huge member as everyone assumed.

With the recent popularity of the James Cameron’s 3D movie, Avatar, you know you’ll be seeing Avatar movie related tattoos. This particular piece was done in a Spokane shop called Skin Candy Custom Tattoos – the artist wasn’t given credit but the site has samples of lots of nice tattoo art. Estimates on the costs related to shooting the movie range from $200 million to $300 million. As the sequels come out – and you know they will – and the DVD sales begin soon – you’ll see these tattoos become more and more popular. Similar to the Harry Potter phenomenon, I anticipate the Avatar movement to be in it’s infancy. The blue flesh looks good on skin.

Don’t we ever learn – how much has it been preached about avoiding getting a lovers name tattooed on our bodies? It’s one of the top five tattoos NOT to get. Some tattoo artists even go so far as to refuse to do this type of tattoo. Why? Because they see the regrets from customers coming back for cover ups or clients spending mucho money on tattoo removal once the love has left the building. Even though the economy has been running in slow motion, tattoos as well as tattoo removal has not slowed down a bit. And here is a staggering statistic – about 20% of those who get a tattoo will eventually want it removed.The top reasons people give for wishing to remove their tattoo – career and job hiring, interests change after so many years and so do tastes, decision to start a career in the military – but the number one reason is to remove the name from a relationship that has failed.

I’m not a fan of Mariah Carey but from what I’ve read her latest beau – Nick Cannon – is the 2^nd romantic connection that she has made that has chosen to have her name tattooed on his body. The size of the font – just make you want to laugh even more – that’ll be one big ass tattoo to get removed and you know it’s inevitable.

Dennis – We’ll Miss Ya

Maybe this is a bit of reach to the topic of tattoos, but I just had to say I’m a big fan of Easy Rider and especially a fan of the movie star Dennis Hopper. Easy Rider = Bikers + Tattoos?…I just found out that although it’s been kept fairly quiet, Dennis Hopper is currently facing his last days. He is now in a hospital facing his last days with prostate cancer. Great actor and he gave some amazing performances in movies like Speed, Blue Velvet just to name a few. I’ve always admired his dignitytalent, and classy style. Unfortunately, it sounds like his last days are not necessarily a peaceful time for poor Dennis. He’s married to a money hungry, selfish woman who is outraged that she is only getting a portion of the estate that was established in their prenuptial agreement. The situation is so bad, that Dennis filed paper work in just the past week, from his death bed, to divorce the woman. How wrong that this poor guy has to deal with the stress and drama this bitch seems to be inflicting on his death bed. He probably won’t get peace in his life until his life is over. I’ll be sorry to see him leave this world.

It makes you wonder about our mentality when the biggest news on the internet is what’s up with Sammy Sosa’s skin. Yup, skin. Although Sammy is now a retired right fielder, the gossip about what’s going on with the change in his skin color made the national news and is now the hottest topic on Google. He admits his skin is lighter and attributes it to a new skin rejuvenation process he is undertaking. That’s it – no big mystery.
