Some weeks it’s hard to find new and fresh topics to blog about – I think of it as Blogger’s block and then there are the weeks where you find a gem like this and you can’t wait to get that post written. This is one of those types. The talented young team working at Julian Murray Photography and Design from Las Vegas has some offbeat projects. (Tattoos & Tentacles from Julian Murray on Vimeo.) They work in primarily the music, advertising, and fashion industries. One of the projects they’ve been working on this past year and plan to continue expanding upon is called the Tattoos and Tentacles Series. Check out the video – gives you an idea of the photo shoots. It features heavily tattooed people posing with a sea creature with tentacles. It looks like an octopus. A fairly small one but gives me the creeps to think about them those rubbery suction cups clinging to skin. Many of the photos are of beautiful. There are many with barely clad sexy women with the tentacle arms draped strategically to keep a person from seeing quite everything. You just wonder how they can stand it. And the models probably have to work with this creature for quite some time before getting the shot the photographer is looking for. Ughhh….The photos are cool and books and posters will be coming this year. The series will be part of future tattoo conventions and gallery showing. You may have an opportunity to see them in person.

Tee Off With Tattoo Style

First let me say – I’ve never golfed. Had the opportunity on a Disney vacation but there was a dress requirement – polo shirt – just don’t own one of those and I refused to buy “special clothes” to meet the dress requirements. Well, if dressing in routine golfing gear has turned you off in the past, there is now an answer. This online store called Tattoo Golf deals exclusively in cool tattoo golf gear. They have tattoo-inspired designs on everything from shirts to cool accessories for you to wear while you’re whacking your balls. Their tattoo shirt collection includes options for youth sizes and the accessories include items like cool looking shades, cool hoodies, hats, golf gloves, towels, driver covers and putter covers. Many covered with skull designs. They’ve recently received some good press in the PGA magazine along with promotion from celebrity golfers. Visit their site – check them out – pretty unique store.

Devries – Always Working on his Art

I’ve had other posts about Mike Devries and I’ll admit he is one of my favorite well known tattoo artists. I was just beefing up his page on my tattoo artist’s site, and discovered a resource for all the extra projects Devries is involved in. Reflected Art is the name and it only came about last year. The project is actually a partnership between Devries and John Pyles, also known as Terminator John. Terminator John is a passionate tattoo collector and the two of them brought together their different perspectives and their love of body art to offer a nice selection of related items. The items on the site are not just Devrie’s items. They are offering dvds, art books, prints, shirts, and other artistic products from talented individuals from the tattoo industry as well as artists outside of the industry. Devries has managed to take his fame and not only relish in the benefits of being a successful tattoo artist, but he is using his reputation to help other artists and promote the industry in a positive artistic vein. I have a lot of respect for him and his principled life style.

Kreepy – Pin-Up Model and Tattooist

Kreepy – not sure how that name came about but it’s the only one this famous pinup model goes by. Kreepy Lourdes.

Kreepy Lourdes began her professional career as a pin-up tattoo model but was collecting ink well before thoughts of a modeling career crossed her mind. Kreepy says switching careers came as a natural since learning the craft has been a passion of hers. Kreepy is into “Old School” style when it comes to all aspects of her being. You will feel as if you’ve been whisked back to the 1940’s when you walk into her place of business. Right down to the flash on the walls. Any examples of her tattoo work are in the Sailor Jerry Old School style. She’s managed to be successful with both careers and her love of days gone by is evident in her tattoo work.

The recent HUGE popularity surge of vampires and all aspects of their world has led to more of an interest in all things vampire. The Twilight popularity has led to a surge in the young teen age group. Kind of a young version of the Anne Rice vampire series. Books, movies, and TV shows – love that True Blood – and we now have clothing and jewelry. They were recently mentioned in a big tattoo magazine – Rebel Ink– and yes, they even have blood vial jewelry. They carry everything you need from head to toe – the shoes, jewelry, fangs, handbags, vampire bite tattoos, and even a cute tee for your little dog.

A Brides Special Day

I give a lot of credit to the brides that decide to break tradition and have their special day their way. Letting their body art be on display for all the friends and relatives that show up to celebrate their special day. It’s about time. Why not wear and look the way you feel most comfortable? Wear those sneakers if that’s your desire. Tattooed Bride has some nice ideas if you’re planning your own wedding and your desire is to be a little over the top. It goes beyond just showing some tattoos off. The grooms, the wedding party – the pictures tell a tale of weddings from shots of the wedding party getting ready to some nice professional shots featuring the couples. These weddings can be fun for the guests too. Remember the days when you got invited to a wedding and your first thought is – dull, predictable and boring. You knew the routine by heart. The biggest surprise would be the color of the bridesmaid’s gowns. Now going to a wedding can mean anything goes. Unpredictable and unconventional is the name of the game.

This great company, GTOPI, airbrushes carbon fiber prosthetic limbs with tattoo art. The owner of the company is a trained Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician and was twenty years into wearing a prosthetic when he created his own socket. He applied a tattoo to it, thereby the tattooed prosthetic was born.

He has come up with a unique innovative method for applying artwork to braces and prosthetics. Horkey’s process vastly expands the options beyond the laminated fabric choices currently available.

The company recently received approval from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), paving the way to become a U.S. government contractor. They said this now allows them to offer their services to veterans at VA hospitals and clinics on a nationwide basis. Visit their site to see more of the artwork they offer. Amy’s New Breasts

Although I’ve lost interest in her music – since I haven’t heard much for the last couple years – yeah that may be it, Amy Winehouse still manages to show up in the news here and there and she’s like a car wreck. You just can’t help but look and pay attention. Maybe she’s turned the corner and 2010 will prove to be a comeback year for her. She recently emerged from a stint in rehab and also finished up with her divorce of the lowlife she was with. She’s one of my favorite tattooed celebrities, although I’m not a fan of her violent episodes. It’s possible her crazy addictive filled life can be blamed for some of the episodes but it makes you wonder about how much of the altercations she finds herself in are truly just part of her nature. But, I digress from the new boob job she recently showed off. Hell, even her father is quoted as saying “Her boobs are great”. What a Dad, huh?

She looks clear eyes in these recent photos so let’s hope for the best. She’s young and full of talent. Let’s hope the rehab sticks.

Unnatural Beauty Contest

In an unusual competition held in Budapest, Hungary, contestants showed off their plastic surgery in a beauty contest aptly names Miss Plastic Hungary 2009. One of the motivations was to promote plastic surgery and it’s benefits to a country that views breast implants and nose jobs with a leery attitude. The pageant was also held to display to the general populace that plastic surgery is not just for strippers seeking triple DD breast implants – (which reminded me of this 3d tattoo with breast implants). The Doctor behind the pageant was happy to report that although Hungary has been hit hard by the current economic climate, the demand for plastic surgery is on the rise. This little brainstorm of his will probably have his phone ringing off the hook.

Tattoo Barbie

Tattoo Barbie – kicking up a storm with parents. Some parents feel that this doll creates a bad role model for their daughters. Putting the pretend tattoos on their bodies may encourage their little waifs to get tattoos as soon as they are old enough to ride their tricycle down to the local parlor. It may even encourage them to wear skimpy clothes to show off those cute new tattoos. We just can’t have that!It is it me or is is time that parents started raising their kids instead of every outside influence being scrutinized and critized. Society is full of sexual overtones that for some reason Americans can’t deal with. For a forward thinking country on most topics, when it comes to sex we have some big handups. We do have freedom of choice. Don’t buy this Barbie for your kid if you really think it’ll ruin their life. Hopefully, their upbringing will have the final say in how these kids turn out when they grow up.
