We’ve seen Barbie go through quite a few transitions and lifestyle changes over the years. I barely recognize the doll I played with decades ago. Mattel made a smart move when they decided it was time that Barbie visited the local tattoo parlor.
This Barbie is different from the body art version that came out with removable tattoo stickers a few years ago. That
Barbie was called Totally Stylin’ Tattoos Barbie. This new, more punk version of Barbie, has permanent tattoos and is called “tokidoki Barbie”. It was designed by Simone Legno and has a sleeve on her left arm and body art on her chest. Mattel describes this new Barbie as a “funky fashionista,” She comes with pink hair and a skull on her cute sweater to go along with her tattoos. She also wears a little hot pink mini-skirt with leopard leggings.
I don’t see anything about this doll that could negatively influence kids but I guess some people have to look for potential “evil” in everything.
The doll will not be sold and marketed in toy stores for little kids. It’ll be marketed for the Barbie Collector website that Mattel has. The reason is – they fear that conservative parents will have a shit fit if their kids found this doll cute and fun to play with. Heaven forbid! Little Mary might run out and get a skull tattoo on her chest when she’s eighteen because she played with Funky Barbie when she was six. Oh, my!

At least I’ll make that statement about myself. I try to be open minded but there are certain lifestyles that we tend to associate with certain social groups. Well – this story shows you can’t always judge a book by its cover. You have to look deeper. It also shows how tattoos are now popular with people from just about all walks of life.
Mitzi Britt is a tattoo artist and a Christian who wanted to help get rid of stereotyping when it came to her faith. She wants to show that even Christians can love motorcycles and tattoos. She’s spreading the word with her own clothing line called Soul Candy Brand. The images are favorite tattoo images like skulls with religious images incorporated in as well. She wants to show people that the life of a Christian isn’t dull and boring.
I think this works to prove a point in 2 ways. You shouldn’t stereotype people because of their faith and you shouldn’t stereotype people that have tattoos.
Another mention- Britt donates a portion of each Soul Candy Brand sale to local community organizations and to their church.
You can buy their products at their studio, Wildfire Tattoo Studio, and online. Wildfire is located in Walnut Cove, North Carolina.

This falls into the same category as henna tattoos, temporary tattoos, and fake tattoo sleeves. Temporary fashion fun. These temporary tattooed lips are for cool and can get you some attention. I like the patterns and colors they’ve come up with. It gives you a pretty dramatic look and I love the high glossy finish some of the patterns have.
To me it looks like they may a bit of a hassle to apply but I’m not really into spending major time getting decked out to go anywhere. Then I’m wondering – what happens when you eat or drink? Do you have to be worried about messing up the lips by getting them wet? Worry about smearing? And then how are they removed? Well worth the price to give it a shot if it strikes your fancy. For under $15 you get 3 tattoo application.
The company that carries the product is called Violent Lips. They have a video on YouTube that explains the whole process of applying them.

This is a picture of a very interesting woman. Not just because of her extreme body modification either. Most of the extremists I’ve read about or have seen in person, travel the convention circuit and they can actually survive doing various related shows and appearances. They create a career with their unique look.
This woman is a Mexican tattoo artist by the name of Maria Jose Cristerna. Nicknamed – Vampire Woman. She has also been a lawyer in a previous career. She comes from a family with serious religious beliefs and she went to religious schools.
She came from a very abusive background and relates her transformation with her liberation from her past.
Cristerna, mom to 4 kids, has tattooed nearly 100 percent of her body, has dental implants to look like vampire fangs, has multiple piercings, and titanium implants on her forehead and temple area. Maria says besides the physical alterations, her life is normal.
Hopefully, one of the major tattoo magazines will get a story on the woman – I’d like to hear more.

Alex Finch is a true fan of Pokemon and he’s proving it with his recent addition of 6 sub-dermal implants and tattoo work. The balls create a cool 3D effect. Finch has been a fan of the video game since he was in 3rd or 4th grade.
The six balls are a reference to the number of Poke Balls from the original video games. He’s not going to stop there. His intention is to get more implants and tattoos of cartoon, video game, and anime icons. At least that’s what he’s says now. I’m assuming he’s at least eighteen and it’s a cool
idea but you just have to wonder how safe it is to get metal placed under your skin. For some reason putting ink under the skin seems natural but metal just seems potentially dangerous.
Maybe I’m getting too old to warm to the idea. I imagine they would get cold in the winter. Then there’s the hassle of metal detectors. Sleeping on them could be uncomfortable. If you change your mind, you have to surgically remove them which I imagine may leave some scarring and hurt like a bitch. And then – would the skin be abnormally stretched out once you remove them? I guess you could say I’m not sold on them – yet.

Celebrity tattoos really have 2 meanings. On one hand, you have celebrities with tattoos. This group is growing all the time and celebrities are more than proud to show off their tattoos when being photographed. There are websites focused on this subject as well as at least one book has been published featuring celebrity tattoos. This has a positive influence for the tattoo industry. Fans of celebrities tend to mimic them.
They admire them so it makes since. If it’s OK and safe for their heroes to get tattoos , then tattoos are A OK for them. Hell, some fans probably admire some of these people so much they may even get the same tattoo as the person they admire.
Then we have the other side of the coin. Everyday people getting ink that will be a constant reminder of celebrities they admire. Celebrities that hold a special place for them. I can’t say I have that much affection or respect for any celebrity but to each his own.
